May 1st was Dia del Trabajo - or Day of the Worker - here in Honduras. Basically, the Central American version of Labor Day in the States.
No School + No Work = Tons of Fun!
Well, except (in case you forgot already) May 1st was on a Thursday. And there was still going to be school and work the very next day.
(No School + No Work)Thursday = Still Having Some Fun!!!
Hubbster and I started up a chat about what we might do during our day off. The zoo, maybe? One of the quaint towns surrounding the city?
Then we received that group email from the RSO (Regional Security Office).
Because the whole of Tegucigalpa would be having the day off, there would be demonstrations and traffic jams all throughout the city. The RSO recommended all Mission Personnel and their families to just. stay. home.
OK, fine!
Having the enormous dislike for both crowds and traffic, Hubby and I opted to follow the RSO's suggestion.
That didn't mean we would be having any less fun!
When there's nowhere to go, what's the best coarse of action?
Why, an Impromptu Pool Party, of course!
Because there are only a handful of "approved" neighborhoods that the U.S. Embassy allows their people to live in, all of us are situated around the city relatively close together. Traffic wouldn't be an issue for the peeps that we know!
The email was sent on Wednesday.
And on Thursday, we had an all-out rager going!
Actually, "rager" is maybe not the right word. With a pool-full of kids between the ages of 2 and 10, it would have been more accurate to refer to it as a "screamer!"
Either way, it was a super-fun day for parents and kids alike! How do I know?
Because everyone was still waterlogged and pruney for school the next day!
