There are some days I can understand why hamsters eat their young.
Kids are a lot of work. And honestly, until you've had one, you really, truly have no idea. By all rationality, we should be leaving them in the middle of the woods, a la Hansel & Gretel. As humans we are self-possessed individuals, we don't do much that doesn't bring some sort of satisfaction to ourselves. Yet there we are, waking in the middle of the night, dropping everything to look for a sippy cup, a schedule that revolves around naptime. Why do we keep on? Why do we still clean up things we wished we'd never seen, read the same book for the umpteenth time, wash stacks of dishes and do piles of laundry? Because they've got one survival instinct that we can not, try as we might, resist.
They are just so darn cute!
So here it is, "Guess We'll Keep Her," a record of the moments I'm at my wits end, only to wind up in a pile of giggles.
This morning, Priss was up at 6:30am. 6:30!!! Why can't this child just sleep in once in a while? The goofy part is that whenever she goes to bed late, she wakes up early. Last night she didn't get to bed till 9. So bright and early, at 6:30 AM, I hear the jumping. That's her thing, after all. Nothing better to get the blood flowing in the morning then a little crib jumping! She's not screaming or anything, so I think maybe I can ignore it. Maybe I can sleep despite the rhythmic creak, creak, creak coming through my wall. No dice. I'm just laying there, debating on whether or not to plug my ears or just get up and get her, when I hear, "Oooone. Twooooo. Threeeee..." That's what we do in the morning. I bounce her on her bed, "One!" I say, as I bounce her once. "Two!" bounce. "Three!!!" pull her out of bed and big hug and kisses. This morning I wasn't there yet. So she took it upon herself to do our little game. I could hear her again, "Oooone. Twoooo. Threeee. Fouuur...." she actually went all the way to seven! Geez she's smart! I had to chuckle as I threw back the bedsheets and plopped my feet on the ground.
Guess we'll keep her!
